The PVS-14 is a battle-proven monocular night vision system built for reconnaissance, surveillance, and low-light operations. Handheld, helmet-mounted, or weapon-mounted, it adapts to a wide range of mission requirements. G24 & J-arm mounts are included.
Lead time for this device is currently 5 weeks.
The PVS-14 is a versatile single-tube night vision monocular designed for a wide range of applications. When worn on a head or helmet mount, it allows the user to observe through the illuminated eyepiece while the unaided eye retains its natural night adaptation. An updated battery compartment also allows the unit to automatically power off when moved into the upright position.
One of the PVS-14’s greatest strengths is its compatibility with weapon-mounted optics. It can be positioned behind most collimating day sights and reflex sights, including systems from ACOG, Aimpoint, and EOTech. This flexibility allows the PVS-14 to transition between a handheld or helmet-mounted monocular for mobility and situational awareness, and a weapon-mounted night vision solution for short-range use.
The system is designed to comply with MIL-PRF-49324(CR), MIL-PRF-49427(CR), and MIL-STD-810G specifications.
With more than one million units fielded by defense organizations and armed forces worldwide, the PVS-14 has established itself as one of the most widely adopted multi-role night vision monoculars. Its mature platform also provides long-term confidence in the availability of replacement components and support, with serviceability expected for 25+ years.

We keep it real and keep it simple. From sizing to shipping, here’s everything you need to know before you cop.
The PVS-14 is a compact, single-tube analog night vision monocular and one of the most widely used night vision formats in the world. It can be helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or used handheld and benefits from an extensive ecosystem of mounts, accessories, and replacement parts.
The biggest advantages are cost, weight, and versatility. A PVS-14 provides the core capability of analog night vision using only one image intensifier tube, making it considerably more affordable and lighter than a dual-tube system. You also have the flexibility of building a bridge system where you piece two PVS-14's or one PVS-14 and one thermal monocular together.
Performance depends heavily on your image intensifier tube and the amount of ambient light available.
Under moonlight, starlight, or other ambient illumination, the tube amplifies available light to produce a visible image. As conditions become darker, you’ll generally notice increasing image noise and decreasing detail. In environments with virtually no usable ambient light, the built-in infrared illuminator or an external IR illuminator may be necessary to provide additional illumination.
Yes. The PVS-14 includes a built-in IR illuminator intended for short-range illumination in extremely dark environments.
For greater distance or a wider field of illumination, a separate helmet-mounted, weapon-mounted, or handheld IR illuminator may be preferable.
FOM (Figure of Merit) combines two important tube specifications into one number:
FOM = Resolution × Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
Resolution describes how much fine detail the tube can reproduce, while SNR describes how clearly the tube can form an image without it being overwhelmed by visual noise, particularly as conditions get darker.
For example, a tube with 64 lp/mm resolution and an SNR of 30 has a FOM of 1,920.
Higher FOM generally indicates greater potential for a clean, detailed image, but it isn’t an overall quality score. Gain, EBI, halo, tube cosmetics, optics, and other characteristics also affect what you actually see.
Phosphor determines the color in which the intensified image is presented.
Green phosphor produces the traditional green night vision image and takes advantage of the human visual system’s strong sensitivity to wavelengths in the green region.
White phosphor produces a more neutral, grayscale-like image that many users find natural and intuitive to interpret.
Neither color inherently makes a tube higher performing. The specifications and quality of the individual image intensifier matter considerably more than phosphor color, so this choice largely comes down to preference.
The PVS-14 is designed for low-light operation. Avoid operating the device normally in bright daylight. Continuous exposure to bright lights will damage your device.
The protective daylight cap contains a small aperture that greatly restricts the amount of light entering the device, allowing limited daytime function checks while helping protect the image intensifier.
Yes. Modern image intensifiers may incorporate protective technologies such as autogating and automatic brightness control, but excessive exposure to intense light can still damage an image intensifier.
Prolonged exposure to a sufficiently intense light source can cause image retention or permanent burn-in, where a visible mark remains in the image.
Normal incidental exposure to lights is very different from deliberately leaving an operating device pointed at an intense light source. Follow the supplied care instructions and avoid unnecessary bright-light exposure.
Autogating rapidly regulates the image intensifier’s operation to help it cope with changing or relatively bright lighting conditions.
This is particularly useful in mixed-light environments containing artificial lighting, headlights, streetlights, or other changing illumination. Autogating can help maintain image usability and reduce stress on the tube, but it does not make the tube immune to bright-light damage.
Yes. The PVS-14 is designed for head and helmet mounting and uses the established PVS-14 mounting ecosystem.
A typical helmet setup consists of a helmet and shroud, night vision mount, and compatible PVS-14 J-arm. This also gives you considerable flexibility in choosing your mounting system rather than locking you into a proprietary helmet interface.
Yes. Two PVS-14s can be connected using a compatible bridge to create a binocular night vision setup.
You will have the advantage of being able to separate the devices back into two independent monoculars when needed. The tradeoff is that a bridged pair of PVS-14s will generally be heavier and bulkier than a purpose-built binocular night vision system.
Yes. The objective lens and eyepiece provide separate adjustments.
The objective focus determines the distance at which objects appear sharp, while the diopter adjustment at the eyepiece compensates for differences in your eyesight.
Because focus is adjustable, you can focus closely for tasks directly in front of you or farther away for navigation and observation.
The PVS-14 runs on one standard AA battery, making replacement batteries inexpensive and widely available.
The system is rated for 50+ hours of operation on a single battery. Actual runtime can vary with battery type, temperature, use of the built-in IR illuminator, and other operating conditions.
For long-term storage, we recommend removing the battery to prevent potential damage from battery leakage or corrosion.
Yes. The PVS-14 is rated for immersion to 20 meters (66 feet) for up to 2 hours.
This makes the housing suitable for use in rain, wet environments, and other demanding outdoor conditions. As with any optical equipment, make sure battery caps and other seals are properly secured before exposure to water.
